GREEK ORTHODOX ARCHDIOCESE OF AUSTRALIA
CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2014
By the grace of God Archbishop of Australia
to all the Reverend Clergy and devout faithful
of our holy Archdiocese.
Dearest brothers and sisters, and beloved children in the Lord,
All of Christendom is preparing this year, once again, to celebrate Christmas, within a world that is troubled, frantic and contradictory.[...]Thursday, 25 December 2014 08:58
When I think of Christmas I think of hope. "For with God, all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26) ...Yet the Creator chose to enter the world in humility without a place to stay. His birth fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah (7:14) "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel", which is translated 'God is with us'.[...]Saturday, 20 December 2014 18:56

A range of Orthodox books make IDEAL CHRISTMAS GIFTS for children...
Designed to be presented to parents at the 40-day blessing of their infant, this attractive book tells the story of how Jesus was also brought to the Temple for blessing forty days after His birth. The story is told through 18 colorful iconographic illustrations by Bonnie Gillis. Included are a page for listing the names of the parents, the child, the church, the city, the date of the blessing; a place for the signature of the priest; a memento page for a photo of the blessing; the priest’s prayer; a parent’s prayer, and two brief articles on the meaning of the blessing.
Long ago on the island of Cyprus, a cuckoo sang a prophetic song that started a series of mysterious adventures. A hermit had a vision, a proud and selfish governor was stricken with paralysis, and a princess lay dying. All these events, including the miraculous healings of the governor and the princess, were part of a plan God s plan to bring the very first icon of the Mother of God, painted by the Evangelist Luke himself, from the emperor's palace in Constantinople to a new home on the island of Cyprus. The richly detailed, jewel-toned illustrations by acclaimed fine artist Niko Chocheli and the engaging text bring this true story to life for contemporary readers of all ages.
This is a wonderful book for families preparing to have a child baptized. Nicholas the Chatterer was an ordinary young boy who loved his home in Constantinople almost as much as he loved to talk. That is, until the day the angels caught him up out of an earthquake and taught him to sing. Then he became Nicholas the Singer. His song saved the city from the earthquakes and entered into the Church’s liturgy for all ages, as the Trisagion Hymn.
The lyrical text and vivid watercolor illustrations bring fifth-century Byzantium to life, showing children everywhere that they too can be used by God to bring blessings to all mankind. A picture book for children preschool age and up.
A variety of boxed religious Christmas cards available.

The St Tabitha 2015 Bi-lingual (Greek and English) Calendar will be available from Sunday 7 December 2014 at all our parishes and from the Evangelismos bookshop.
The Calendar is a great reference tool for the whole year and is a must for every orthodox house.
The Calendar will make a perfect Christmas gift.
The calendar includes:
- All the Feast Days and Fasting Days of the year
- The days that Liturgies are conducted in the Greek and English languages
- Contact details of all the Parishes in Perth
- Selected passages from the various Saints of our Church
Colourful photos have been included in this year's calendars - see below (click to enlarge).
The proceeds from the Calendars will assist St Tabitha with its charitable works which the committee is frequently called upon to carry out throughout the year. These requests include assisting in burials for underprivileged members of our community and contributing funds to families in need. St Tabitha also assists the Greek Orthodox Parishes of WA with events and fundraising initiatives such as the annual Winter Appeal and Homeless Connect Appeal.
The Philoptohos of St Tabitha thanks everyone in advance for supporting its charitable work.
As we near Christmas and New Year again, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the feast days leading up to and after the Nativity of Christ. The program is now available for download from here and is available for viewing below. You may also view these events from our Events page.
