This morning we celebrated the Vesperal Divine Liturgy, which commemorates the Descent of our Lord into Hades.

Just before the Holy Gospel reading, Psalm 82 was chanted with the repeated refrain, “Arise, O God, judge the earth…”, while fresh bay leaves were scattered throughout the whole church. This is done as a sign of the triumph and victory over death.
