ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHATE
Announcement of the Holy and Great Synod
During its three day deliberations (23-25 June, 2020), the Holy and Great Synod in the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambesy, Geneva, discussed, amongst other items, matters relating to the ecclesiastical life of the different Eparchies of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, including also the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, according to which it decided unanimously the following:
- It expresses its full support in the person and the praiseworthy work of her new Shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, a vastly educated Hierarch with a dynamic episcopal ministry.
- It expresses strong dissatisfaction towards His Eminence Metropolitan Nikandros of Eirenoupolis for his unauthorised mingling in the affairs of this Eparchy of the Throne, and,
- with satisfaction, endorses the imposition of the six-month sentence by the Bishop of Mount Athos, banning the Hieromonk Damaskinos (from the Cell of Saint George the Philadelphos), attached to the Holy Koutloumousio Monastery, from performing any priestly duties, for his thoroughly anticanonical and scandalous actions to the detriment of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and her Shepherd, instead of cultivating that which would be of benefit to him, namely, his own prayer life and prayer rope.
In Geneva, on the 25th of June, 2020
The Chief Secretary
of the Holy and Great Synod
