The West Australian Modern Greek Language Teachers’ Association Inc. (WAMGLTA) is proud to announce that this year’s WAMGLTA nominee for the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia (PTCWA) Outstanding Professional Service Award was Deputy Chairperson of WAMGLTA, Ms Maria Svarnou.
Maria received the Award at the PTCWA Presentation Event, which took place on Wednesday 23 October at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club.
Representing WAMGLTA were the following members: Chairperson of WAMGLTA, Dr Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis, and Executive Committee Members, Mrs Katerina Reklitis and Ms Maria Gerou. Also present was Mr Michael Reklitis. Maria, as the Award recipient, was also there in her capacity as Vice President of the PTCWA Executive Committee.
Maria’s citation for the PTCWA Outstanding Professional Service Award is included below:
Maria is a passionate advocate of Modern Greek language education, and she has actively contributed to WAGMLTA’s mission by playing a key role in various initiatives dedicated to preserving and promoting the Modern Greek language and culture within our community.
Maria has held key roles on the Committee, including Secretary and Deputy Chairperson where she has played an instrumental role in helping to coordinate professional events and assist in the management of the Association to promote Modern Greek language and cultural initiatives.
Co-invigilator for the Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) examinations for the past two years, Maria has assisted in the smooth execution of the examinations and has co-assessed the oral component.
Maria has attended and participated in the annual Consular Wreath-laying Services in commemoration of Hellenic cultural and key historical events.
She has been a keynote speaker for community and school events, such as the Pan Macedonian Association of WA for the annual celebration of the Dimitria Festival.
Maria will be undertaking the role of Webmaster for WAMGLTA’s webpage for 2025.
