13th International Conference on Greek Research

Last week in Adelaide the Australian Centre for Hellenic Language and Culture at Flinders University held its biennial International Research Conference.

The Conference has been operating since the early 1990s, regularly attracting world renowned scholars from a range of fields to Australia.

This year’s Conference, while smaller in scale than the 2017 event, still brought together scholars of philosophy, the classics, modern history, sociology, education, language studies, literature and culture. Papers delivered covered a range of diverse topics such as the Axiom of Archimedes, the Chios Massacre of 1822 and the emerging alliance between Hellas, Israel and Cyprus, through to New Media and Identity.

Our own Dr John N Yiannakis presented a paper with a Western Australian focus entitled “An Antipodean Greek Tragedy: Mayhem on the Murchison”. He hopes to have the opportunity to present a version of this paper to a local Greek audience in the near future.
