Since Apostolic times, caring for the sick has been a major part of the Church’s mission. Dedicated clergy, medical, allied health and lay people in pastoral positions have worked together to provide for the physical, psychological, and spiritual health for the ill.
The Greek Orthodox Pastoral Health Care Network in Australia is a branch of the Network of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for Pastoral Health Care (https://www.pastoralhealth-ep.com/). Its objective is to enable those involved to:
- Provide spiritual support and guidance to those that are sick and to their family members.
- Promote a high-quality care on all levels of human existence.
- Help and support all those that minister to the ill, establishing in this way a spiritual bond that will allow all to share the difficulties and problems in their ministry, and to conjointly benefit from each other’s knowledge and experience.
- Contribute to the ongoing education in the area of pastoral health care.
